Frequently Asked Questions (sales)
I see a feature called COMPARING on your website. What is it?
When you see an RV on our website that you might be interested in, you can click "Compare" and it will be added to a list of similar RVs that you have selected for comparison. Then when you click "Compare these RVs now" you will see the selected RVs side-by-side for easy comparison of specs and pictures. You can compare up to four RVs at a time. It’s an easy way of zeroing in on the RVs that you are interested in. You can add new RVs to your Compare list and discard others, as you wish. Experiment with it a little and you will find that it is useful and fun, as well.
Are the new "lightweight" trailers really lightweight?
Some are, some are not. Every manufacturer wants to call their product Lite. Check the actual weight in their specifications or the weight sticker in the unit. Keep in mind that reducing weight usually costs more than making the same floorplan in a heavier version. If you need a lighter unit so you can tow it, we have them. If you don’t need it, why pay for the lighter weight.
Is it true that it is hard to finance a RV right now?
It is certainly true that some national lenders have curtailed their lending for cars and RVs. But some local and community lending institutions are anxious to make consumer loans for RVs within their normal market area. Some have branches over a pretty wide area. Camp-Land has long-established relationships with several of these that cover our market area. We are able to arrange loans for the RVs we sell without much problem. See our Finance section for more details.
RV buyers that are many hundreds of miles from the dealership may have more of a problem.
I have read that now is a good time to get a good buy on a RV. Is that true?
Yes it is, if you buy from a local dealer that can arrange financing. It is a very competitive time in all retail businesses. There are bargains to be had on current and last years models. Interest rates are relatively low and the selection available is still good at our dealership. Some dealers did not order enough and are running low on popular models..
I want to sell my RV because I don’t use it anymore. Will I be able to?
Used travel trailers are selling very well. Two or three year old trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes are harder. Prices are depressed on those, mostly because of the lower prices for new RVs. Your best bet is to clean the RV up and consign it with a dealer. We are seeing a lot of buyers for good clean used units. But, you must expect a lower price than usual on recent models. We welcome consignments, especially travel trailers.
What about trading my used unit for the new one I want?
You will always get more for your used unit if you trade it in instead of selling it outright, because the dealer wants to make a sale. To get the best trade-in value you should take your trade to the dealer for a visual inspection, if you have a nice clean one. A sharp trade-in is worth a lot more than a beat-up one, or one that the dealer can’t see.
My current vehicle doesn’t have much towing capacity. Will I have to get a bigger one to pull a camper?
RV manufacturers have responded to the need for lighter campers. There is something for every vehicle on the road. Everything from a 575 lb. pop up camper to a 2500 lb. travel trailer to half-ton towable fifth wheels. Many vehicles can tow 3500 lbs. and there are many travel trailers in that class. A reputable dealer with experienced sales consultants will help you select a unit that is right for you. Many people who want a larger trailer than they can pull, park permanently in their favorite campground. We can deliver to your campsite.
My next car will probably be smaller than the one I have now. What should I do?
Tell your sales consultant about your plans. He or she will guide you to a camper that is appropriate.
When I buy an RV from Camp-Land, do you charge a Doc. fee on top of the final price?
No, unlike many dealers, we do not add a fee for handling the paperwork. When we give you a price, that is all you pay – plus sales tax, of course.
Do you add a charge for freight and/or pre-delivery preparation of the RV I buy?
Some dealers do, but we do not. There is no separate charge. Those items are included in our price.
What about a demonstration of how to work everything on my RV? Is there a charge for that?
No charge. We have experienced specialists that will spend an hour or longer showing you how it all works. We want your first experience with your new RV to be a pleasant one.
Why don’t you show more RV prices on your website?
Mostly because we can’t figure out which price to show. Some websites show base MSRP, meaning the suggested list price for a bare unit with no options. Generally, this is a pretty meaningless number. Depending on the brand, base price may not include enough equipment to even be useable. Another option is to show the MSRP for a specific unit, as it is equipped, including all options. We do that sometimes. Some websites show a discounted price, but then at the time of sale, add on hundreds or even thousands of dollars in fees. Some manufacturers won’t allow advertising any price except MSRP. Prices can be very misleading unless you know exactly what is included.
Can I buy an RV from Camp-Land online?
Yes, you can and many people do. We recommend buying from a local dealer if you possibly can, for several reasons. Most importantly, you should have a relationship with a local dealer for service and support. You will be more comfortable with the purchase if you see the dealership facility. You also should see the RV in person before you buy it. It is hard to imagine buying a used RV without seeing it first. Options and interior décor are important to your future enjoyment of a new RV. Sitting in it is the best way to be sure you really like it. Also, the buying of an RV should be an enjoyable, pleasant experience. It should be fun! Personal relationships with dealership personnel will enhance the experience.
